Public Safety

A school of Community Government program to train government staff and community residents in the skills necessary to ensure and promote public safety

What is the purpose of the Public Safety Program?

To train government staff and community residents in the skills necessary to ensure and promote public safety.

What will I learn?

Presently, students can participate in such courses as:

  • Bylaw Officer training
  • Community Constable program

How is the S of CG teaching different?

  • Training is based on occupational standards (performance standards set by the industry that list all of the skills, knowledge and attitudes a person must have to be considered competent in a certain field)

Courses are designed and delivered according to personal and/ or community needs

What are the objectives of the Public Safety program?

  • To provide community government employees with the skills to adequately perform the roles of public safety officials

To enhance the skills of public safety employees so that they can more effectively contribute to the community development process

Why Should I Take the S of CG Safety Program?

Upon completion of the public safety program, you will have more knowledge in your field . You will be able to better serve your community and continue your job with a higher degree of quality, competency, and capacity.

When and Where?

  • Training courses are now underway with more beginning in September 1999
  • Training Courses will be delivered throughout the Northwest Territories in both regional and community settings.
  • A Bulletin advertising S of CG training opportunities, registration details, schedules, dates and locations will be regularly distributed to community staff, organizations and partners that support community governments.
